Sgouras Dionyssios N

Dionyssios Sgouras received his B.Sc. (Chemistry) in 1985 from the University of Athens. In 1987 he completed his M.Sc. (by research) and in 1991 his Ph.D. on polymer-controlled anticancer drug delivery at the University of Keele, UK. He remained throughout 1991 as a post-doc working on specific targeting of anticancer agents to the lung. He received a U.S. NIH-Fogarty International Fellowship and worked at the Laboratory of Molecular Oncology, at Frederick Cancer Research Center (1992 -95) on the cloning and functional characterization of Ets-2 repressor factor (ERF). He served as a clinical biochemist at the 251th Airforce Hospital (1996-97). From 1997-2002, he worked at the Diagnostic Genetic Center S.A. involved in biochemical and molecular prenatal screening. In May 2002 he became an Assistant Researcher at the Laboratory of Medical Microbiology, Hellenic Pasteur Institute, in May 2010 promoted to Principal Investigator and in 2018 to the position of Research Director. Since May 2014, he has also been appointed as Head of the Vaccine Unit at Hellenic Pasteur Institute, following the approval of the Hellenic National Organization for Medicines. Curently, he serves as Secretary of the Executive Board of the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, a FEBS constituent society. Current research interests include molecular mechanisms contributing to H. pylori pathogenesis in relation to gastric inflammatory response, tissue remodeling in the lamina propria and gastric carcinogenesis.
