Barry Coyle

D. Barry Coyle (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. degree in physics from the College of Charleston, Charleston, SC, USA, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from the American University, Washington, DC, USA, in 1992. He has been with NASA-GSFC, Greenbelt, MD, USA, doing laser development for remote sensing for more than 35 years. He has developed solid-state lasers for aircraft and spacecraft lidar instruments such as the first Land Vegetation and Ice Sensor and the GEDI lidar. He is currently the Laser Scientist with the DraMS instrument aboard the Dragonfly mission to Titan. He is also developing eye-safe high-power systems for ground-based laser ranging and rapid manufacturing technologies for flight-quality photonics hardware.
