In 1994, after graduating from the University of Campinas, the Pilacamba School of Dentistry (FOP-UNICAMP), I received a master's degree (1996) and a doctor's degree (1999) in oral biology and pathology from the same institution. I became an associate professor in 2006 and am currently a professor of pathology in the FOP-UNICAMP Department of Oral Diagnosis. "I served as a researcher (sandwich researcher) at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (1998-1999) for one year, where I conducted a series of experiments to understand the cellular and molecular events related to gingival overgrowth in hereditary gingival fibromatosis, and for another two years (after a PhD), I worked with Professor Heide L. Ford at the University of Colorado, Denver (2002-2004) at the School of Medicine.", To explore the role of SIX1 homeobox genes in breast development and tumorigenesis. In 2022, the University of Helsinki School of Medicine awarded me the honorary doctorate title to recognize my international contributions to oral cancer.
