Activities summary
I received the Physics degree in 1992, with ratings 106/110, discussing a thesis on Physical Measurement on Monolayers. During my thesis I performed viscosity and equilibrium spreading pressure measurements at air water interface.
In 1998 I obtained the Physics PhD studying Structural properties, self assembling and interactions in guanosine quadrihelices. I carried out investigation of phase diagram of guanosine derivatives using X ray diffraction. Beside the laboratory activity at Istituto di Scienze Fisiche dell’Università degli Studi di Ancona, I performed neutron diffraction , small angle at Berlin Neutron Scattering Center, neutron reflectivity on monolayers at air-water interface and on multilayers at Léon Brillouin lab di Saclay, elastic and inelastic neutron scattering on guanosine aggregates at ILL Grenoble, small angle scattering on proteins and DNA derivatives at ELETTRA (Trieste).
I obtained INFM (National Institute for the Physics of Matter) grants on neutron scattering, calorimetry, neutron reflectivity and I attended to Biophysics, X ray diffraction,DNA, physics of matter and Liquid Crystals schools.
I won a competition for FSE fellowship to develop liquid crystals devices in collaboration with
spin off INFM LICET s.r.l.
Then I worked as researcher for Calpark Parco Scientifico e tecnologico della Calabria, innovation project , on electro-optical measurements on liquid crystals cells.
Later, in 2004 I was hired in the role of a tenure-track INFM researcher (later CNR-IPCF, and now CNR-Nanotec) (winning a competition based on qualifications and examinations). Since 2009 my position became permanent.
My research fields are
- Investigation of amphiphilic molecule monolayers at the air-water interface, film deposition with Langmuir-Blodgett and Schaefer technique and investigation by X-ray diffraction and neutron reflectivity.
- Phase diagram determination of biological systems by X-ray and neutron diffraction, small angle scattering
- Alignment, electro optic and linear optic characterisation of liquid crystals
- Surface and molecular director modelling in liquid crystal cells: charge distribution in liquid crystal cell.
- Characterization of profile director via half leaky guided mode technique
- Surface relief gratings in azo-dye elastomer mixtures
- X ray reflectometry and diffraction
- Alignment of chromonic phases
- Morphology of gas separation membranes
I have been supervisor of several theses degree and a scientific responsible of a ph D student I have been also a professor, teacher assistant and tutor in various courses of the Science Faculty and the Physics Dept. of the University of Calabria, participating in the examination committees. I participate to several scientific projects of national and international importance
