Cíntia Barros Santos-Rebouças is a biologist and holds a PhD in Sciences (Human Genetics) from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) in 2002. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics at the UERJ, co-coordinator of the Human Genetics and Family Counseling Program and leader of the research group "Cytogenetics and Human Genetics" in the same institution. She participates as a teacher of two Graduate programs (Graduate in Biosciences and Graduate in Clinical and Experimental Physiopathology), advising Master's and Ph.D. students. In addition to training human resources, she develops research lines in Human Genetics, Epigenetics, Genomics, Transcriptomics and Bioinformatics projects focusing on the understanding of the human neurological function, concerning intellectual disability in children and neurodegenerative conditions in elderly, like Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases. Besides, she has experience in the role of the X-chromosome and its regulatory mechanisms (eg X-chromosome inactivation) with respect to different susceptibility to disease or distinct phenotypic manifestation between males and females. She also collaborates in researches focusing on cancer and Nutrigenomics. To date, she has more than 50 scientific articles published in indexed journals of international circulation.
