In November 2010, Professor Steele was inducted as an ASHA Fellow and received the University of Toronto’s Speech-Language Pathology Alumni Association Distinguished Service award. In April 2011 she received the Eve Kassirer Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement from the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists followed by the Mentorship Award from the same organization in April 2013. In November 2012, she was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her contributions. In April 2016, Professor Steele was awarded Speech-Language Audiology Canada’s Lifetime achievement award.
