Catarina Oliveira

Catarina Resende de Oliveira, MD PhD, is Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, Consultant of Neurology at the Neurological Clinic, in the Coimbra University Hospital (CHUC), was past President of the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC), University of Coimbra, was coordinator of the “Unidade para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento” (UID) at CHUC, and was Board of Directors member of the Clinical Academic Center of Coimbra (CACC). Presently, she is the President of the portuguese "Agência para a Investigação Clínica e Inovação Biomédica" (AICIB). Her research interests are focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration. She was founder and Leader of the research Group dedicated to Advanced Diagnosis and Biomarkers of Aging and Brain diseases. Her contributions to science are described in over 300 publications, with an h-index of 77 and more than 19500 citations in international scientific journals including New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet Neurology and JAMA. She has a vast experience in organization and leadership of research and in evaluation of research projects. She has been reviewer for FCT, Welcome Trust, Alzheimer's Association, Parkinson’s UK, Medical Research Council (MRC) and European Research Council (ERC). She is member of the Health Sciences Scientific Council of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and of the European DANA Alliance for the Brain (EDAB); was sub-director of the Portugal/ Harvard Medical School Programme, as well as member of the direction of Health Cluster Portugal (HCP), Catarina Oliveira was awarded with several prizes for her research work: “Estimulo à Excelência”, by FCT, “Nunes Correa Verdades de Faria” prize in Aging, by “Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisboa”, “Grande Oficial da Ordem da Instrução Pública” by the President of the Portuguese Republic, and the Medal of Distinguished Service, gold category, by the Ministry of Health of Portugal.
