Maria Cristina Carotta

Maria Cristina Carotta became Doctor in Physics at the University of Ferrara in 1973. From 1981 to 2010 she was researcher at the Department of Physics of the same University. Now she is consultant within CFR (Consortium Future in Research) and associate in research at CNR-IMAMOTER. Maria Cristina Carotta is a senior expert in semiconductor physics, mainly on structural, electrical, optical and transport properties of semiconductor oxides for gas sensors in basic and applied research. She has several years’ experience in designing and development of semiconductor metal oxides (MOX) as well as in developing innovative sensor-based instrumentation for effective applications in the field of environmental and industrial applications. She has expertise in atmospheric pollution, air quality monitoring through conventional analytical instruments as well as by means of array of metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors. She has also long experience in development and deployment in real working conditions of atmospheric pollutant monitoring units based on MOX gas sensors. Moreover, she has carried out studies of photoactivation and photocatalysis in functional nano-materials and gas sensors for basic and applied research. She has been involved in many Italian and European research projects concerning the aforesaid applications of solid state gas sensors based on nanostructured semiconductor oxides. She is author of more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and of more than 100 contributions to the proceedings of international conferences, reviewer and/or editors of numerous journals of physics and material science, organizer of national and international conferences and editor of the proceedings.
