Bryan R. Hansen is a passionate advocate for the promotion of optimum mental health and well-being of older adults and their families through teaching, practice, and research. He has practiced as a psychiatric nurse with a special focus on proactive approaches to preventing and managing aggressive behaviors in inpatient settings. In this role, he was an active member of a dynamic transdisciplinary team that was the cornerstone of a remarkably successful program to reduce the use of seclusion and restraint in psychiatric care at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has also practiced as a psychiatric nursing clinical instructor and adult forensic nurse examiner. During his predoctoral training, he was designated as a John A. Hartford National Hartford Center of Gerontologic Nursing Excellence Patricia G. Archbold Predoctoral Scholar, 2013-2015. He also has received research and training support from the National Institutes of Health, the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence, and the Dr. Scholl Foundation. His dissertation work focused on examining aggressive behaviors among diverse, community-dwelling persons with dementia and exploring family caregivers’ perspectives on aggressive behavior in dementia.
