Navakanta Bhat

Navakanta Bhat (Fellow, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA, in 1996. He worked as a Device Engineer with the Motorola’s Advanced Products Research and Development Laboratory, Austin, TX, USA. He joined the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India, in 1999, where he is currently a Professor and the Chairperson of the Interdisciplinary Research. He is the Founder and the Promoter of a startup company called PathShodh Healthcare, Bengaluru, with a focus on point-of-care diagnostics for multiple chronic diseases, including diabetes and its complications, anemia and malnutrition, and liver and kidney disease. His current research interests include nanoelectronics technology and integrated CMOS-MEMS sensors. He was a member of the Committee set up by the Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India to recommend strategies to develop semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS) and the Chair of EDS Nanotechnology Committee. He was a recipient of several honors and awards, including the Infosys Prize for Engineering and Computer Science, the IBM Faculty Award, the DAE-SRC Outstanding Research Investigator Award by the Government of India, the Dr. Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship, and the Swarna Jayanti Fellowship.
