Bernhard Schmauss (Member, IEEE) received the Dipl.Ing. and Dr.Ing. degrees in electrical engineering from University Erlangen-Nuremberg in 1989 and 1995, respectively. Since 2005, he has been a Professor for optical microwaves and photonics with the Institute of Microwaves and Photonics, University Erlangen-Nuremberg. His current research interests include fiber lasers, medical application of photonics, optical sensors, fiber optical sensor systems, and optical transmission systems. He is the Principal Investigator of the “Erlangen Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies,” the Chairperson of the Elite Study Program “Master in Advanced Optical Technologies,” and a fellow of the “Max Planck School of Photonics.”
