In our studies we apply Bioconjugation Chemistry and Chemical Biology for which we develop methods for the site-selective modification of native proteins using organic molecules that have precisely defined nano-structures and activity states (NanoChemical Biology). Background I obtained my Ph.D. degree from the Utrecht University (The Netherlands, supervisor: prof. dr. Rob M. J. Liskamp), for my work on peptide-based mimics of enzyme active sites. During my post-doctoral studies in the group of prof. dr. Nils Metzler-Nolte (Ruhr University Bochum, Germany) I applied organometallic-peptide conjugates as novel antibacterial agents with activities on par with vancomycin, and developed several novel methods for the conjugation of bioactive peptides and organometallic moieties. In the laboratory of prof. dr. Itamar Willner in Jerusalem (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel), I developed catalytic DNA with enzyme-like properties.
