Jan Bakker is Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.
He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at New York University, a full Professor at Erasmus University in Rotterdam the Netherlands, a Professor of Medicine at the Catholic University of Chile in Santiago and a Professor at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands.

He is the deputy chair of the Cardiovascular Dynamics Section of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and member of the Editorial Board of several International Journals in Critical Care Medicine. As of 1-1-2018 he will be the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Critical Care
