Bart F. J. M. Koopman

H. (Bart) F. J. M. Koopman received the M. Sc. degree in mechanical engineering with specialization fluid dynamics from the University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands. He performed his civil service at the Biomechanics Group of the University of Twente, which resulted in the Ph.D. degree at the end of 1989 on the analysis and prediction of human walking. When the Laboratory of Biomechanical Engineering was founded in 1990, he started working there as a Faculty Member of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Twente, where he now chairs the Biomechanical Engineering Group. He worked on various topics related to the co-ordination of movement and with applications in rehabilitation and orthopaedics. Currently, his main research interest is in biomechatronics. This area studies the control of human movement and the information exchange with mechanical aids. Within the Institute for Biomedical Technology (BMTI) he works closely with the Biomedical Signals and Systems Group of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Roessingh Rehabilitation Center in Enschede.
