Aria Abubakar

Aria Abubakar (Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Bandung, Indonesia. He received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in technical sciences from the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, in 1997 and 2000, respectively. From 2013 to mid-2017, he was the Interpretation Engineering Manager at the Schlumberger Houston Formation Evaluation, Sugar Land, TX, USA. From mid-2017 to mid-2020, he was the Data Analytics Program Manager for Software Technology and the Head of Data Science for the Schlumberger Exploration and Field Development Platform based, Houston, TX, USA. He joined the Schlumberger-Doll Research, Ridgefield, CT, USA, in 2003, where he remained for ten years, ending his tenure as a Scientific Advisor and the Manager of the Multiphysics Modeling and Inversion Program. Since mid-2020, he has been the Head of Data Science for the Schlumberger Digital Subsurface Solutions, Houston. He holds 40 U.S. patents/patent applications, has published five book/book chapters, and written more than 90 scientific articles in journals, 200 conference proceedings papers, and 60 conference abstracts. He also has presented more than 300 invited and contributed talks in international conferences, institutes, and universities. His main responsibility is to oversee and coordinate the utilization of artificial intelligence, machine-learning, and data-analytics technology for subsurface applications throughout Schlumberger. He has been working in the area of numerical modeling and optimization for geoscience and biomedical applications and as well as multiphysics data integration. Dr. Abubakar was the 2020 SEG-AAPG Distinguish Lecturer and the 2014 SEG North America Honorary Lecturer.
