Anja Bieberle-Hutter

Dr. Anja Bieberle-Hütter studied Materials Science & Engineering with main focus on ceramics at the University Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, and at Alfred University, USA. She holds a PhD in Materials Science from the ETH Zurich, Nonmetallic Inorganic Materials (Prof. L.J. Gauckler), Switzerland, for her work on experiments, modeling, and simulations of Ni model anodes for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. In 2001, she joined Nortel Networks Optical Components / Bookham Technologies in Zurich as Senior Process Engineer for Assembly and Packaging. After two years in industry, she took a Post-Doc position at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, in the Electroceramics Laboratory of Prof. H.L. Tuller. Her work focused on micro-Solid Oxide Fuel Cell development, in particular on microstructured cathodes and thin film electrolytes. Two years later, in 2005, she joined again the Nonmetallic Inorganic Materials group at ETH Zurich as a senior scientist, Oberassistent, lecturer. In addition, she was project manager of the ONEBAT micro-SOFC consortium consisting of 5 Swiss multidisciplinary research groups. Since 2013, Dr. Bieberle is working for DIFFER (Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research) in the Netherlands on photoelectrochemical solar fuel conversion. She was appointed as a tenure track group leader in 2014. Her research interests are thin film deposition and microstructuring of metal and metal oxide thin films as well as their chemical, structural, and (photo)electrochemical characterization. Modeling and simulation of electrochemical interfaces complement the experimental studies for identifying the limitations at electrochemical interfaces of energy applications. Dr. Bieberle has published 39 papers in peer-reviewed journals and is a frequent reviewer for several journals in the field of solid state ionics, electroceramics, and electrochemistry.
