Since my graduation, at the University of São Paulo/Brazil, I have worked extensively with stress evaluation, focusing on canids. Data on Brazilian wild canids are still poor, and my research team was one of the first to study the behaviour some of them, from the point of view of stress/welfare. I was the first author of the paper that validated the techniques for glucocorticoid evaluation in maned wolves (Chrysocyon brachyurus), the most vulnerable Brazilian canid species. In another study, part of my PhD studies, we found out the “contrafreeloading” effect in the same canid species. This information made evident the need of the species for a varied and interactive captive environment. Afterwards, in my Post-doc studies, I focused in interactions between animals and human beings. Last year, I was the primary author of a paper published in Plos One, showing the controlled interaction with human beings may be beneficial for wild animals as much as they are for domestic animals, from the point of view of stress-management. Most recently, as an Associate Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I started investigating social stress in domestic and wild birds, and my current studies are on anthropogenic-acoustic stress. All these studies, among others, besides being published in international peer-reviewed journals, were spread in international conferences, such as the Canine Science Forum, the Conference of the International Society for Applied Ethology and the Conference of the International Society for Anthrozoology.
