Andrea Cucco

My research interests concern several aspects of the physical oceanography including the study of the water circulation and wave propagation in coastal areas and the analysis of the interactions between physical and biological processes in the marine environment. My focus has been on the development of novel approaches based on numerical modelling to compute the transport time scales of pollutants in semi-enclosed basins and costal seas. Applied research includes the implementation of operational forecasting systems to provide real-time short-term oceanographic prediction in coastal areas. I am member of an international team focused on the development and improvement of an open-source oceanographic model based on the finite elements method (https://github.com/SHYFEM-model/shyfem). I have been involved in several research projects aimed at modelling and predicting the environmental risk derived from oil spills impact in highly sensitive coastal areas. I am author of more than 70 scientific papers on ISI Journals (ISI) on various topics of physical oceanography.
