Ana Sofia Ribeiro

Ana Sofia Ribeiro is an Assistant Researcher at Epithelial Interactions in Cancer, at Ipatimup/i3s, Porto. ARibeiro studied Biochemistry at Science Faculty of Oporto University and performed her training period in the Immunology and cell biology group from Wageningen University, in the Netherlands, under the supervision of Jan Rombout and Heidi Huttenhuis. Her graduate studies were followed by a master degree in oncobiology at Medical faculty of Oporto University and IPATIMUP, with the thesis untitled "P-cadherin: role in breast cancer cell migration and invasion", under supervision of Fernando Schmitt. In 2008, she initiated her PhD work at IPATIMUP, supervised by Fernando Schmitt and Joana Paredes, where she investigated the role of two cell adhesion molecules, E- and P-cadherin, in breast cancer progression. During her Post-Doctoral grant, ARibeiro focused on studying how the crosstalk between cell-cell adhesion molecules (cadherins) and ECM affects cell invasion and metastization, using breast cancer as a model. ARibeiro is now involved in the development of new in vitro 2D/3D, as well as in vivo models to study this disease. Her ultimate goal is to discover new prognostic factors for breast cancer patients, supporting the development of new therapeutics to control aggressive breast cancer, specifically brain metastastic disease. Ana Sofia Ribeiro work originated 2 Thesis on P-cadherin role in breast cancer progression, 28 publications in international peer-review journals and a total cumulative IF of 147. She is the first author of 5 manuscripts (Q1 journals) and is highly involved in the group publications on P-cadherin and cancer research and has a h-index of 16. Her results were published in top cancer-related journals, including Nanoscale, Oncogene, Cancer Research, Breast Cancer Research and BBA Reviews on Cancer.
