Ana Salomé Diniz Monteiro do Vale Cardoso Ferreira is a PhD student at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science - University of Nottingham. Her PhD scholarship project is funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council’s Doctoral Training Programme (BBSRC DTP) – Industrial Cooperative Awards in Science & Technology (iCASE). The industrial training partner is the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). The topic of her PhD is “Use of precision technologies for mobility scoring to objectively measure lameness in dairy herds”.
Ana graduated from Coimbra Polytechnical Institute, Portugal, as an Agricultural and Livestock Engineer with a B. Sc. (3-year course + 2-year Licentiate) in 2001. Her final year projects for the two courses were carried out as a recipient of an Erasmus and a Leonardo da Vinci studentship respectively at the University of Turin in Italy. Then, at the Faculty of Veterinary at Lisbon University, she undertook her Graduate Studies in Livestock Production and, later, returned to the Coimbra Polytechnical Institute, where she completed a Masters Degree in Agriculture and Livestock in 2010, having received a Merit Scholarship Award.
Her professional experience started at the Agricultural and Chemical Laboratory Rebelo da Silva, in Lisbon, as a research fellow. Among other roles, she worked as an Agronomic Engineer at the Institute for Agricultural Development, as a teacher in Agricultural and Livestock Sciences in a College, as a Scientific and Technical Advisor for Coimbra Polytechnical Institute and worked on many projects sponsored by Statistics Portugal, in which she charged with processing and analysing a substantial amount of survey data or managing of the statistics survey team.
