Academic Interests
Amit R. Patel MD is an internationally renowned cardiologist and specialist in cardiac imaging. In his clinical practice, he uses advanced cardiac imaging techniques to develop a more targeted treatment plan for patients with heart disease. He is the Director of the Cardiac Magnetic Resonance and Computed Tomography Program at University of Chicago. His research is focused on the development and clinical utility of new non-invasive cardiac imaging tools. He is the principal investigator of many ongoing research studies and has published over 100 manuscripts. He has also co-authored several expert consensus documents related to the use of cardiac imaging to evaluate heart disease. Dr. Patel gives lectures internationally and nationally about his clinical expertise and research. He also serves on multiple international committees focused on improving the quality of advanced cardiac imaging and has helped developed the board exam for both cardiac magnetic resonance and cardiac computed tomography. Dr. Patel is additionally recognized as an outstanding educator and has trained dozens of cardiologists to use advanced cardiac imaging, many of whom are now practicing at major academic medical centers themselves.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Patel has specific expertise in cardiac MRI and cardiac CT. His other clinical interests include cardiac stress testing, evaluation of chest pain, diabetic heart disease, infiltrative cardiomyopathy, and general cardiology.
