Alonso Juan-Manuel

Dr Juan Manuel Alonso is a Spanish-trained Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician. He has vast experience in Track and Field and has attended seven Summer Olympic Games and eleven International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Outdoor Athletics Championships. He has been the Medical Director of the Spanish Athletics Federation from 1996 to 2013. He has been the chair of the IAAF Medical and Anti-Doping Commission from 2003 to 2015 with a global responsibility for anti-doping and improving athlete care for all 200 countries in the Athletics Federation. He has published several papers, mainly on sport injuries and illnesses, heat stress and sport performance. He joined Aspetar Sports Medicine Department on 1st May 2013 where he works as Sports and Exercise Medicine consultant. He was Qatar Olympic Team Chief Medical Officer for Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Dr Alonso has been the Medical Director of IAAF World Outdoor Athletics Championships Doha 2019.
