Dr. Carroll is a clinical health psychologist whose research interests broadly encompass the promotion of cardiovascular health, management of cardiovascular risk, and prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, particularly for disadvantaged and historically underresearched populations. Her research has largely focused on the psychological (e.g., depression) and behavioral (e.g., cigarette smoking) contributors to chronic disease. Dr. Carroll is a co-investigator and implementation scientist on several NIH-funded research projects seeking to implement and evaluate evidence-based interventions to prevent and manage chronic diseases, including adult and pediatric hypertension, cancer, and depression. She is a core faculty member of Northwestern's BRIDGES program, directed by Dr. C. Hendricks Brown.
