Alexis Amadon got a BSc from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (1988 - electrical engineering), a MSc from Texas A&M Univ. (1989 - nuclear engineering), a PhD from Univ. Paris-Sud (1995 - high-energy physics), and a "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches" from Univ. Versailles Saint-Quentin (2014 - MRI physics). Alexis worked in an IT service company (Steria) between 1990 and 1992 before completing postgraduate studies in high-energy physics. He has been a research engineer at CEA since 1995, published in the fields of aerosol physics (1990), nuclear instrumentation (1995), particle physics (postdoc at the University of Chicago in 1995-97) and observational cosmology (from 1999). He was co-founder and technical manager of a multi-media startup (2000-02: Wiziway, developing the first paper hyperlink reader). He then embarked on a career in MRI methodology targeting the human brain from 2003. He first trained with Denis Le Bihan and Vincent Lebon on a 3-Tesla MRI at CEA-SHFJ (Orsay), before becoming one of the pioneers of NeuroSpin where he specialized in tackling image artifacts arising from ultra high magnetic fields, such as compensating RF inhomogeneities with parallel transmission. He is the main inventor of the kT-points RF transmission method (2010), which has been licensed by CEA to Siemens Healthcare. He was also system manager of NeuroSpin's 3T imager (2008-2019), where he collaborated with neuroscientists, especially with regards to functional MRI. He is now in charge of NeuroSpin's R&D team in MRI instrumentation, after getting grants for the development of parallel transmission coils and B0-shim inserts dedicated to the human brain. His research interests go from Ultra-High-Field MRI to cognitive neuroscience.
