I obtained a PhD in Virology at the University of Padua Medical School (Italy) in 2006. During my PhD internship I worked as visiting student in H. Gottlinger’s laboratory in DFCI-Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA) where I characterized the molecular mechanisms underlying the control of the activity of CHMP proteins, which are key players in the budding of HIV and other enveloped viruses, as well as the biogenesis of multivescicular bodies and cytokinesis. Next I joined as a Post doctoral fellow the group leaded by Ali Saïb at CNRS UMR7212-Inserm U944 (St Louis Hospital, Paris, France) where I studied the pre-integration latency of HIV in resting T cells. I also showed that HIV integrase is modified by the Ubiquitin-like modifier SUMO. Since 2010 I am associated professor at the Department of Biology at Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (Cnam) in Paris where I teach molecular biology, virology and cencerogenesis (>200 hrs/yr). My current research projects focus on the characterization of the interplay between retroviruses and the host cell machinery of SUMOylation, an Ubiquitin-like post translational modification. In particulat I am addressing the molecular basis for the restriction of retroviruses replication by proteins of the SUMOylation machinery.
