Avroy Fanaroff’s research interests include problems related to prematurity and particularly the care of infants at the borders of viability. He is also interested in neonatal infections and hyperbilirubinemia. He was a founding member of the Shriver NICHD Neonatal Research Network,has over 200 peer reviewed publications and is most interested in neonatal education.

He has received many awards including Honorary M.D’s from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and the University of Turku, Finland as well as Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Pediatricians and Child Health,London. He is aso the recipient of the Apgar award for life time achievement in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine, the Saltzman award for community service and the Physician recognition award from University Hospitals. He is married with three children and five grandchildren and is an avid sportsman bridge player and photographer.
