Bio
Arjan P. Verweij received the M.Sc. degree in applied physics and the Ph.D. degree in electrodynamics of superconducting cables in accelerator magnets from University of Twente, the Netherlands, in 1991 and 1995, respectively.
He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at CERN for three years, where he designed and constructed the FRESCA Test Facility for the electrical characterization of superconducting cables up to 10 T, 32 kA, and down to 1.9 K. He was then awarded a staff contract at CERN in 1998, following up the production and quality control of superconducting strands and cables for the large Hadron collider (LHC), and for performing and analysing many tests on Nb–Ti magnets. Since 2007, he is strongly involved in the protection, operation and performance of the 1700 superconducting circuits in the LHC. Since 2015, he has been leading the Performance and Evaluation section in the Machine Protection and Electrical Integrity Group, CERN Technology Department (CERN TE-MPE-PE), where he is responsible for a wide range of R$\&$D, studies, simulations, experiments, and data analysis aiming to further enhance the operational performance of the LHC and to optimize performance of future accelerators.
