Alexander Ruyack (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. degree in materials science and engineering and the M.S. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA, in 2013 and 2017, respectively, where he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree with the Electrical and Computer Engineer Department, SonicMEMS Laboratory advised by A. Lal.
His research focuses on the application of microsystems in wireless sensor nodes to advance usability and operational lifetime while also improving sensor function. Notable work includes approaches for transient substrates with integrated MEMS and deliverable payloads, alkali metal-based power generation, zero power piezoelectric physical sensors, inertial sensors for high dynamic range applications, and near-zero power RF receivers. He has worked previously on graphene and carbon nanotube growth and manipulation as well as nanoparticle and quantum dot synthesis and functionalization. He also works as a Cornell NanoScale Science and Technology Facility Fellow, where he is developing processes utilizing block copolymer resists for nanometer scale self-assembled periodic features.
