Andrés Maldonado

My main focus within plastic surgery is microsurgery and peripheral nerve reconstruction, with an expertise in brachial plexus surgery, lymphedema and breast reconstruction. After finishing my residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Europe, I sought additional training in the United States. I feel truly honored to have operated for two full years as a surgical fellow in such prestigious programs as the University of Chicago (Microsurgery Fellowship) and the Mayo Clinic (Peripheral Nerve Fellowship). After training, I built the Peripheral Nerve Unit at BG Unfallklinik Frankfurt in Germany (2016-present) and was then appointed Coordinator of the Peripheral Nerve and Brachial Plexus Program at the University Hospital of Getafe in my hometown Madrid (2019-present). Currently, I work in both Institutions with the main focus on complex nerve reconstructions. As a plastic surgeon, my utmost goal is to uphold the highest standards in microsurgery, while keeping a strong focus on Academia at both European and American institutions. I have contributed to over 60 original peer-reviewed PubMed-indexed papers and 10 book chapters published to date. Since 2016, I have served as an Adjunct Associated Professor in peripheral nerve at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), allowing for an intense research partnership. I hold a PhD and love to work in a teaching and researching atmosphere, where professional and scientific projection go hand in hand.
