As a renowned member of the radiation physics scientific community, I bring more than two decades of solid experience in radiation physics research and teaching. I am Radiation Protection Expert, Certified by the regulatory body (Greek Atomic Energy Commission: GAEC), I develop knowledge in my field and I am recognized by my academic peers at the international level. During my tenure with the School of Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), I rose through the ranks and perfected my skills and knowledge, up to my current position as Full Professor and Deputy Head of School of Physics, AUTH. I sharpened my analytical skills and cultivated an ability to adopt an interdisciplinary mindset when dealing with a problem and I developed my capacity as a leader, yet also as a team player. In addition, through my teaching duties I evolved to an efficient communicator able to distill technical information into easy-to-understand advice and explanations. I make full use of e-learning tools for an effective distance-learning process and I have great experience in preparing training material and lessons for academic teaching, professionals and workshops, all completed with resounding success. Alongside teaching undergraduate and graduate level students and mentoring PhD candidates, I maintained an intense focus on research by leading and participating in many research projects. I have research expertise on radiation physics and isotopes, radiation protection, radioecology, environmental radioactivity and effects of radioactive pollutants by their dispersion, contamination and decontamination. I attracted international recognition to my work and forged lasting relationships with the international scientific community through joint research projects, publications in international journals, conferences, meetings, and working in institutes abroad. I am at the forefront of three IAEA-supported core projects, in the field of Radiation Physics Applications: (a) Country Representative: IAEA RER7015 TC Project "Enhancing Coastal Management in the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea by Using Nuclear Analytical Techniques" (2020-2024); (b) Scientific Responsible: IAEA – CRP J02014 "Repair and Calibration of Malfunctioned Radiation Detection" (2019-2023); (c) Scientific Responsible: IAEA – CRP - G42006"In Situ Measurements for Rapid Environmental Mapping of Contaminated Sites" (2014- 2019). I have published 63 scientific papers in peer reviewed International Scientific Journals, and more than 100 publications in International Conferences Proceedings. I have more than 1500 citations in my published work and I’m reviewer in 32 international scientific journals. Most notably, I chaired the very successful ENVIRA2015 (www.envira2015.gr) Environmental Radioactivity International Conference (in-person) and the ENVIRA2021 (https://envira2021.gr/) Environmental Radioactivity International Conference (on-line), having full responsibility of the site, organization and scientific program. Furthermore I am the Editor of a Special Issue in Journal of Environmental Radioactivity and Editor of ENVIRA2015 Conference Proceedings. A large portion of my time is invested in the Radiation Physics and Environmental Radioactivity Lab at School of Physics, AUTH. The Lab is in close collaboration with the regulatory body (GAEC), acting as a response organization at the local and regional level in case of nuclear or radiological emergency. My greatest achievement to date within the Lab was to develop a technical guide with standard procedures and implement a seamless incident response plan, which streamlines the transition from routine operations to all the procedures required to timely address any incidents. In addition, I ensured the lab is well equipped with all instruments required for sampling and analysis of environmental samples, in both routine and emergency cases. Alongside the Lab team, I participated in national and international emergency preparedness and response exercises with the GAEC and IAEA, as well as in IAEA inter-calibration and proficiency tests.
