个人简介
I am a passionate and multidisciplinary researcher in the field of arterial mechanics. In my research, I integrate engineering and clinical studies to further our understanding of the evolution/deterioration of arterial mechanics and function associated with vascular ageing and disease (e.g., hypertension, obesity and diabetes), with particular interest to arterial stiffening. My multidisciplinary approach to cardiovascular research, which is certified by my publications in journals with a broad range of different scopes, comes from my belief that both engineering and clinical investigations, with their complementary advantages and limitations, are fundamental to significantly advance the cardiovascular field. My ex vivo experimental work allows me to characterise the arterial wall material property at different scales, from the level of the constituents within each layer to the macroscopic wall function, using computational modelling to understand in depth the structure-function relationship in arteries. My in vivo work aims to translate the acquired experimental knowledge into non-invasive techniques (mainly using high-frequency ultrasound scanning and tonometry) to effectively assess the performance of large arteries in clinical settings. I have the ambition to become a research group leader in the field of arterial (dys)function and mechanics. During my PhD, I won the ARTERY Research Exchange Travel Grant that funded a collaborative project with Dr Bart Spronck at Yale University. This initiative paved the way towards my current Post-Doctoral Researcher Position in Drs Koen Reesink and Bart Spronck’s research group at the UM BME Dept., showing my ability to initiate and maintain fruitful collaborations. The main scope of my research are the structure and mechanics of the arterial wall, and how they are affected by aging and pathologies as hypertension and diabetes.
