Adrian F. Clark

Adrian F. Clark (M'95) received the B.Sc. degree in physics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K., in 1979, and the Ph.D. degree in image processing from Queen Elizabeth College, University of London, London, U.K., in 1983. After post-doctorate research into parallel image processing, he was with British Aerospace, researching in the general area of object recognition. In 1988, he joined the University of Essex, Colchester, U.K., where he is currently a Reader with the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. From 1991 to 1993, he headed U.K. involvement in the development of the International Standard for Image Processing and Interchange and was an Editor of the first part of that Standard. He is a fervent evangelist for quantitative evaluation and comparison in vision, leading him to set up PEIPA, one of the first resources on the web for disseminating standard code and datasets. His current research explores the interaction of computer vision and computer graphics, and building vision systems using machine learning. Dr. Clark is a member of the Institute of Physics, serving on the latter's Signal Processing, Electronics and Communication Systems Committee, and of the British Machine Vision Association. He is a former Secretary of the BMVA and has chaired Technical Committee five of the International Association for Pattern Recognition.
