Álvaro Blanco

Álvaro Blanco was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1971. He received the graduate degree in physics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Madrid, in 1994, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM), Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC), Madrid, in 2001. His doctoral dissertation focused on the fabrication and characterization of three-dimensional (3-D) photonic crystals based on opals. After a two-year stint with Institut für Nanotech-nolozie in Forschungs-zentrum Karlsruhe, working on holographic photonic crystals as a Postdoctoral Fellow, he is now the Ramon y Cajal Researcher at ICMM, CSIC, Madrid. He is the author or coauthor of more than 20 papers in the field of photonic crystals. His current research interests include the preparation and characterization of 3-D heterostructures with applications in photonics.
