Bio
Kevin C. Pietersen received the Ph.D. degree in hydrogeology from UWC. He is currently a Research Fellow with the Department of Environmental and Water Studies, UWC. He has 30 years of experience in the water, environment, geosciences, and energy sectors. He has extensive experience in the exploration, development, and management of groundwater. He was the Team Leader for the recently completed Consultancy Services for Water Resources Management Research in the Eastern Kalahari Karoo Basin Transboundary Aquifer, a Groundwater Institutional Advisor for a World Bank Project entitled Groundwater Management in the Horn of Africa, and the Co-Chair of the International Association of Hydrogeologist (IAH) Transboundary Aquifer Commission. He also developed the Strategic Action Plan for the Stampriet Transboundary Aquifer System on behalf of UNESCO and currently provides technical support to the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area as a Groundwater Expert to better understand water governance and water use in the Pafuri-Sengwe Node to inform drought preparation and mitigation measures at the community level. He is a fellow of the Geological Society and a Senior Fellow of the Water Institute of Southern Africa.
