David's research interests focuses on biotechnology- the application of the life sciences to the fields of engineering, medicine and technology- in particular their application to regenerative medicine and drug delivery. Previous research has focused on tissue engineering and biomaterial development of the skin, bone, eye and the brain. Current interests include the development of novel (bio)mimetic substitutes, high-throughput screening technology, organ-on-a-chip technology as well as the development of a desiccation-tolerant mammalian cell line.
David is a firm believer of the concept of “to make things better, you first need to know how it works” and the application of “benchside-to-bedside” technology. As such, David aims to build upon his expertise in tissue engineering, pharmaceutics and bioprocessing to further his knowledge of (drug) formulation design, novel therapeutic manufacturing and the development of enhanced cell culture/in vitro models.
