Alvaro Gonzalez

Alvaro Gonzalez (Member, IEEE) received the Ingeniero degree in Telecomunicación from Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Valencia, Spain, in 2005, the M.Sc. degree in space studies from International Space University, Strasbourg, France, in 2006, the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA, in 2009, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 2014. He was an internship student working on spacecraft antennas with Alcatel Alenia Space, Toulouse, France, in 2005; and with the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency, JAXA, Tsukuba, Japan, in 2006. From 2006 to 2008, he was a graduate trainee with the European Space Agency, ESA/ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, working on mm-Wave mixers and antennas. Since 2010, he has been working on the development of heterodyne receivers and instrumentation for radio astronomy with the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, Mitaka, Japan, where he is currently East Asia ALMA Program Manager. He is also a Professor with the Department of Astronomy, University of Tokyo, and with the Graduate University for Advanced Studies, SOKENDAI, Mitaka, Japan. Dr. Gonzalez was the recipient of the Spanish “Premio Nacional de Fin de Carrera Universitaria” in 2006, the Fulbright Science and Technology award in 2008, the IEEE RADIO 2017 Young Scientist Award in 2017, and the 8th NINS Young Researcher Award in 2019, among others.
