Staphylococcus aureus biofilms are linked to chronic infections like endocarditis and osteomyelitis. We developed techniques to determine the production of virulence factors of S. aureus biofilms and strategies to real-time monitor the metabolic status of biofilm associated bacteria. This setup allows us to study the sensitivity of biofilms towards antimicrobials. Currently we are looking for ways to mimic the in vivo conditions during endocarditis, osteomyelitis and LVAD driveline infections.
