Alexander Böker is director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP and holds the Chair for Polymer Materials and Polymer Technology at the University of Potsdam, Germany. From 2008 to 2015, Alexander Böker was deputy scientific director of DWI – Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials in Aachen, Germany. In 2015 he received a Consolidator Grant of the European Research Council (ERC). Currently, he is Speaker of the Fraunhofer Flagship Project “Sustainable, Simulation-guided Biobased and Biohybrid Materials” as well as Director of the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence “Programmable Materials”, and also acts as Co-Speaker of the Fraunhofer Strategic Research field “Bioeconomy”. His scientific output consists of more than 175 peer-reviewed papers published in highly ranking journals (e.g. Nature, Nature Materials, Physical Review Letters, Advanced Materials, Angew. Chem., ACS Nano, Chem. Commun., Small, etc.) as well as and 16 patent applications. The main research interests of his group include integration of biological functions into polymer materials and guided self-assembly of colloidal and polymer systems.
