Bio
Isabel Azevedo was a Post-doctoral Researcher from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia in the area of Art Studies - Digital Holography (2010-2016), at De Montfort University, Imaging & Displays Research Group, Modern Holography, Leicester, UK and University of Porto, Portugal; PhD in Art Studies (8 Nov. 2005), from the University of Aveiro, Department of Communication and Art; Post-graduation from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Art Holography (1988-1990) at University of Porto; Graduation in Fine Arts/Painting (1987), from Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto.
She was Monitor of Printmaking at University of Porto, Faculty of Fine Arts, (1987-1992); Professor of Fine Arts at ARCA/EUAC, University School of Arts of Coimbra, Portugal, (1992-2015); ). Since 2007 until 2015, Isabel Azevedo was an Integrated Member at ID+ Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture, since 2016 is an Independent Researcher/Collaborator.
She completed the supervision of 10 Master Degree students; and 1 PhD student at University of Vigo (Spain); she was member of the Jury of 4 PhDs and 50 Master Degrees, at ARCA/EUAC Coimbra, University of Aveiro, University of Lisbon, University of Seville, (Spain), some of them as principal examiner and was external evaluator to the European Mention, at University of Seville.
She published 38 papers in international peer-review conference proceedings, 26 of these 38 papers were published as a senior (corresponding) author, and some of the international oral presentations were: Art in Holography 2, University of Nottingham, UK (1996); 6th ISDH – International Symposium on Display Holography, Lake Forest College, Illinois, USA (1997); Holography Conference, St. Pölten, Austria ( 2000); CIANTEC - International Congress in Art, New Technologies and Communication, University of São Paulo, Brasil (2007- 08) and University of Aveiro, (2009) ; 8th ISDH Shenzhen, China (2009); since 2011, OPTO - Practical Holography: Displays, Materials and Applications, SPIE's Conferences, Photonics West, San Francisco, USA; 9th ISDH MIT Media Lab, Cambridge Massachusetts, USA (2012); 10th ISDH Saint Petersburg, Russia (2015).
Since 2017 Isabel Azevedo is member of the Conference Committee SPIE Photonics West OPTO - Practical Holography: Displays, Materials and Applications, San Francisco, USA ; Art Co-Chair in the 11th ISDH International Symposium on Display Holography, University of Aveiro, Portugal (25-29 June 2018); Co-Curator and Artist participating in the International Exhibition “Art in Holography: Light, Space & Time”, Aveiro City Museum, (26 June-30 Sep 2018); Invited speaker in the Leonardo’s 50th Anniversary Day, 26 June 2018.
Isabel Azevedo is also an Artist who investigates the relationships between Art, Science and Technology. Isabel Azevedo received the Revelation Prize in 1º Biennale of Art of Sintra, 1987.
She received the Shearwater Foundation Grant on July, 2000.
