Bio
I study microorganisms that live under extreme conditions, particularly specializing on acidic and cold environments as well as the deep sub-surface. I use various genomic and post genomic techniques to study the organisms' properties and how they adapt to and affect their environment. This knowledge is then used by industries, e.g. to remove polluting chemicals in the mining industry and to understand the effect of microorganisms on underground storage of nuclear waste.
