Abstract
Orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances is applied nowadays to children, teenagers and adults, the goal being mainly dental aesthetics, with obtaining a beautiful and healthy smile, but also a stable and functional occlusion. Orthodontic therapy can cause biological changes in the oro-dental system, with the appearance of lesions whose characteristics depend on the orthodontic treatment itself (duration, type of appliance, nature of orthodontic forces, orthodontic mechanics), but also of factors related to the patient (age, oral health, the peculiarities of the stomatognathic system, malocclusions, vicious habits, systemic diseases, dental hygiene). This review highlights the clinical features of the normal anatomical variations and the oro-dental pathology reported during the orthodontic consultations performed monthly in patients with fixed appliances. It is it is important for the patient that the orthodontist recognizes the clinical aspects of the oro-dental pathology determined or not by the orthodontic treatment, so that, correctly diagnosed, to be correctly treated.
