SCALES FOR IDENTIFYING GIFTEDNESS IN BRAZIL: critical analysiS

The identification of giftedness (AD/SD) is a challenging process that traditionally starts with the use of screening instruments. Seeking to understand the quality of these materials used, a critical review of the psychometric qualities of the scales found was carried out. This review was done after consulting the Scielo, Pepsic, Google Scholar and Periodicos Capes databases. Seventeen scales were identified, with four adaptations and 13 developed nationally. As for the evaluated dimensions, it is noted that they reflect a multidimensional definition adopted by the Ministry of Education. Despite this, there are a limited number of studies investigating evidence of validity and accuracy, with more studies focusing on its content. In view of the findings, it is possible to state that the instruments used nationally lack refinement studies, to guarantee the adequate use of the results. It is suggested that future studies be carried out to expand the databases, including dissertations and theses.
