Islamic mental health financing schemes for parents with mental disorder children

PurposeThis study aims to examine the receptiveness of Islamic mental health financing schemes among parents with mental disorder children in Malaysia.Design/methodology/approachThe innovation diffusion theory (IDT) was used to examine the factors influencing the receptiveness using empirical data from 323 respondents.FindingsThe IDT's factors, namely, compatibility, relative advantage and simplicity were instrumental in determining the receptiveness.Research limitations/implicationsThe usefulness of the results obtained was confined to the theory used as well as the geographical areas chosen.Practical implicationsThe results obtained serve as a useful reference guide for Islamic banks in offering these schemes to parents with mental disorder children.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is the first to test the effects of financial innovation drivers on the proposed Islamic mental health financing schemes in terms of their receptiveness.
