European transport stakeholders view on innovation capacity

Research and Innovation (R&I) in transport address negative externalities by improving transport efficiency and competitiveness. This research captures public and private transport stakeholders’ perspectives regarding innovation activities, barriers and enablers, and transport R&I insights and trends, bottlenecks and future policy implications. The paper, therefore, provides policy and research indications on the development of future transport R&I. According to the stakeholders view, several actions could improve transport R&I that could be included in the design of future funding programmes such as: better access to data and information, clearer dissemination and promotional activities; broadening the target audience; streamlined administrative and bureaucratic procedures and increased visibility of projects’ results, best practices and challenges faced.
