Abstract
In this fast-changing world, stress is one of the primary causes of mental health issues like mental retardation, headache, and memory deficiency, as well as other cognitive disorders. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder identified by the aggregation of mainly amyloid and tau protein in the nerve cells, which disrupts intraneuronal communication and results in memory loss, and deprivation of autonomy and cognitive tasks. AD is a progressive degenerative illnesses, and may lead to death if not treated or managed in time. There is an imperative need to explore the herbal remedies comprising potent effects against amyloid and tau proteins, the major culprits in AD. Therefore, the primary objective of translational research in AD is more focused on less toxic treatment options using natural compounds. Curcumin, isolated from the natural herb turmeric exhibits a broad spectrum of bioactivities against AD and could be a robust therapeutic candidate in the disease. In this chapter, the mode of action of curcumin against AD has been reviewed.
