Study on Transient Stability of Grid-Following VSC with Virtual Inertial Control

The inertia simulation ability of voltage source converter (VSC) has an important impact on frequency stability, however, the effect of inertia on the transient synchronization stability of VSC should also be noted. Transient stability of grid-following VSC with virtual inertia control (VIC) was studied in this paper. Firstly, a Grid-following VSC large signal model considering VIC was established. Then, the impact of VSC parameters on transient stability was analyzed through phase portrait. The results indicate that the introduction of inertia reduces transient synchronous stability of VSC. Finally, the correctness was verified through PSCAD simulation.
