Anatomical Analysis of Sedillot's Triangle As a Reliable Landmark for Insertion of Central Venous Catheters in Neonates Using a Central Approach
Translational research in anatomy(2023)
Abstract
•In the sample of neonatal cadavers examined, only three (8%) fully formed triangles were found.•In neonates, Sedillot’s triangle appears as a groove only, with the two heads of sternocleidomastoid overlapping.•Lateral growth of clavicles can cause two heads of sternocleidomastoid to separate to create Sedillot’s triangle.•The absence of a distinct Sedillot’s triangle makes “blind” insertion of a venous catheter inadvisable.
