Differential detection of sheep and goat meat using duplex real-time PCR and high-resolution melt analysis

•Duplex real-time PCR assay for simultaneous detection of sheep and goat meat.•Differentiation of amplicons based on closed-tube high-resolution melt analysis.•Specific inflexion points at 78 °C for goat amplicon and 80 °C for sheep amplicon.•LoDabs and LoQ of the assay were reported to be 0.39 ng & 0.78 ng respectively.•Sensitivity of 0.1% and LODrel of 5% were reported.
