Abstract
The increasing power demand globally paired up with the rising ecological challenges have pushed the importance of distributed energy resources (DERs) in to the spotlight. Virtual power plant (VPP) conceptualization has assumed pivotal importance for realization of true potential of distributed energy resources. In this review article, Optimized scheduling concept is analysed via an in-depth comparative analysis as it plays a key role in optimizing the use of internal resources for efficient participation as a single unit. It is a key process for balancing the load demand and power production capabilities of virtual power plants for its smooth and efficient operation and connectivity to power grid and electricity markets. Various optimization techniques along with their key characteristics, objective functions, associated uncertainties and control approaches are discussed in this paper. It is hoped to be an epicentre of information for the researchers exploring optimization issues of virtual power plants.
