•X-ray-radiolysis-induced photochemical reaction enabled the synthesis and deposition of Ni nanoparticles.•The size of Ni nanoparticles decreased with increasing pH due to changes in the oxidation reaction.•The coverage ratio can be controlled by the pH of liquid solution.•The Ni nanoparticles deposited on LiNbO3 substrates have a typical ferromagnetic characteristics.
